MUDr. Jiří Skořepa
Proctologist
Proctology focuses on treating benign diseases of the rectum. These problems are often related to a sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy habits, obesity, irregular bowel movements, insufficient intake of liquids, and sometimes also hereditary factors.
It is important to rule out more serious conditions such as cancer.
After an initial discussion and a description of your past and present difficulties, the proctologist will perform a basic rectal examination with his finger, or an anoscope, a retroscope. These tubular devices are inserted after application of a desensitizing gel. This allows up to 20 cm of the rectum to be examined to determine the type and extent of the problem. This examination is not painful.

Based on the results, your doctor will recommend appropriate lifestyle measures and treatment, which can be conservative or surgical. A conservative approach includes diet, sufficient liquids, regular physical activity, use of local ointments or suppositories, medications to strengthen vascular walls, or pelvic floor rehabilitation.
Some surgery can be performed on an outpatient basis, such as Barron ligature of hemorrhoids (rubber band) or incision of perianal thromboses.
More demanding procedures are performed as part of one-day surgery:
